LEAP is a weekend programme for people aiming to make long term changes to their life to lose weight. LEAP is aimed at people with less confidence and/or physical ability and who experience pain or anxiety when exercising. By understanding personal psychology LEAP aims to inspire confidence and enable exercise for every individual attending.

Psychology Talk by Dr Celia. Includes personality profiles, and the CBT thought cycle



10:00am – 10:30am

Goal Setting. What is a goal? What are your goals? How are you going to achieve your goals?

10:30am – 11:15am

Introduction to exercise. What counts as exercise? How can I fit exercise into my everyday life? Practical experience of exercise in a safe environment.

11:15am – 11:45am

  1. What should it look like? Keeping a food diary.

11:45am – 12:30am

Practical session in the kitchen  -cooking lunch

12:30am – 13:00pm

Mindful eating and hunger scoring. Do I eat emotionally?

13:00pm – 13:30pm

Eat lunch mindfully!

13:30pm – 14:15pm

Emotional eating. Recognising and noticing emotional eating. Exploring other coping mechanisms for stress.

Physical activity session

Healthy snack ideas. Hands on in the kitchen.

LEAP expanded aims

  • To facilitate exercise
  • To demonstrate and practice “healthy eating”
  • To aid understanding of self and break through emotional and psychological barriers to weight loss and change
  • To act as a kick start for weight loss
  • To provide individuals with a personalised action plan that will help them reach their long term weight loss goal
  • To inform individuals of the life they could expect if living with diabetes
